Quality Dental Care for Pets

Our team of veterinarians and staff at Perrysburg Animal Hospital are here to make sure your pet's teeth stay healthy while treating any dental conditions they may have. Your pet's oral health is just as important as their overall health. Oral and non-oral issues can be detected and treated early at a dental checkup.

During your pet's oral exam, our vet will check their jaw, gums and teeth to make sure they look healthy. Your pet's teeth may need cleaning too.

Oral Issues to Watch For in Your Pet

  • Bad breath
  • Broken or loose teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Less of an appetite
  • Pain around or in the mouth
  • Swelling around the mouth

Changes in your pet's behavior can also be a symptom of oral health issues.

Causes of Dental Issues in Pets

  • Cleft palate
  • Infected teeth
  • Periodontal disease
  • Roots and teeth that are broken
  • Tumors or cysts in the mouth

Schedule an appointment if your pet has any of the above conditions. Periodontal disease is the most common health issue found in dogs and cats. A full dental cleaning and X-rays can help determine its severity. Regular dental checkups can also help prevent the disease from worsening.

Dental Care With Anesthesia

Pet dental care requires anesthesia to keep your pet and our staff safe. Without anesthesia, your pet may try to get away or even bite. We will monitor your pet before, during and after their procedure and pets can almost always go home the same day as their procedure.

At-Home Dental Care for Your Pet

Perrysburg Animal Hospital recommends brushing your pet's teeth yourself to keep their gums and teeth healthy between visits. We will happily show you how to correctly brush your pet's teeth. Call (419) 874-8974 to make an appointment or if you have any questions. Same-day emergency services are available.
